Owing to energy transition, low-temperature systems are increasingly being used. A negative aspect of low-temperature systems is their vulnerability: over time, air bubbles cause corrosion and biofilm forms, causing obstruction and blockages Energy consumption increases while the comfort and life span of the system decline. To address this problem we now developed a degasser for low-volume, low-temperature systems: the VacuStream. This compact appliance is especially suited for smaller systems and removes the need for chemical water treatment.
More and more homes are being made sustainable by fitting them with underfloor heating, sometimes in combination with a heat pump. The return on these sustainable investments can be affected if gasses in the system prevent optimal operation. The build-up of dirt in low-temperature systems is a slow but harmful process.
Corrosion and the growth of biofilm, due to the presence of oxygen, block the pipes and cause premature maintenance work. Heating up takes longer (reduced thermal transfer), cold zones form (reduction in comfort) and the system can even fail altogether.
In the past, flushing was the only (temporary) remedy, but prevention is better, cheaper and more lasting than cure.
Conventional air separators do not work well at low temperatures. While vacuum degassers are effective, they are often too large and expensive for small systems as well as making quite a lot of noise. The VacuStream solves this problem.
The VacuStream is a compact and quiet degasser (approx. 45 x 15 cm) for systems up to a capacity of 500 litres. Due to its physical dimensions and degassing capacity, the VacuStream is also extremely well suited for smaller low-temperature systems in homes and small commercial applications. The focused temperature range (-5 ºC to +65 ºC) allows the VacuStream to work both when using heat pumps and cooling solutions. The VacuStream degasses the system water on a fixed cycle by creating a vacuum on demand. The air bubbles released in this process rise to the top and, as soon as the piston returns to its original position, are quickly and effectively discharged from the top via the Flexvent automatic float air vent.
The VacuStream can be easily installed next to the heat pump or underfloor heating manifold (even in the distribution cabinet, if necessary). The appliance is fitted with an integrated 24V adapter which enables an easy connection to the available mains power. Because the degasser prevents blockages, premature maintenance and energy wastage, the VacuStream helps to maintain the efficiency and comfort of the low-temperature systems. The VacuStream is suitable for the installation of new systems and the renovation of existing systems.
With the VacuStream, we have expanded the wide range of air and dirt separators. The range consists of the Flexvent float degassers as well as the XStream microbubble air and dirt separators; for larger commercial buildings the Vacumat Eco degassers and the SideFlow Clean partial flow filters.
The VacuStream will be available from mid-2023.
Flamco has been involved in the development, production and sale of high-quality components for use in HVAC systems since 1956. It is part of the stocklisted Aalberts NV, instituted in 1975. Along with Comap, which helps manage water and energy through its thermal and sanitary products that increase comfort in buildings, the Aalberts hydronic flow control business unit was constituted. Stronger together, Flamco and Comap will continue to build mission critical technologies to manage heating and cooling humanly with better financial and environmental efficacy. From source to emitter we partner with our customers to engineer seamless energy efficient hydronic systems for their building requirements.
